The Descendants of Eve and Adam

Who are the earliest people to have spoken to God?

I'm reading through the Bible--currently Genesis. I'm reading the English Standard Version. This version is published by a non-profit called Crossway. There was a team of over 100 scholars involved in translating the Bible. The bible, being that its construction was done between ~300BC to ~300AD, was originally written in non-spoken, ancient languages like Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek. I selected the ESV version because their translation philosophy is "word-for-word" as opposed to "thought-for-thought". I wanted a translation that was closer to the original style of the text.

Genesis introduces us to the lives of people God spoke too a long, long time ago. The women and men of this group are called Biblical matriarchs and patriarchs, respectively. I've read sources that define exactly who is a matriarch and patriarch, where one source may say for example that Abraham is a patriarch whereas another may say that Jacob's, Abraham's grandson, sons are patriarchs. I am not going to dive too deep into this for now.

Here is a portion of the biblical family tree--starting from Noah, who has lineage to Eve and Adam.
